What kind of steel is used for stamping dies

The materials for making stamping dies include steel, hard alloy, steel-bonded hard alloy, zinc-based alloy, low melting point alloy, aluminum bronze, polymer material and so on.

Most of the materials for manufacturing stamping dies are mainly steel. The types of commonly used die working parts materials are: carbon tool steel, low alloy tool steel, high carbon high chromium or medium chromium tool steel, medium carbon alloy steel, high speed steel , matrix steel and hard alloy, steel bonded hard alloy and so on.

In the case that the forming conditions cannot be met, the hot stamping forming technology of ultra-high-strength steel plates is gradually being studied internationally. This technology is a new process that integrates forming, heat transfer and structural phase transformation. It mainly uses the characteristics of increased plasticity and reduced yield strength of sheet metal in the high-temperature austenite state, and is formed through a mold.

Extended information

Process nature categories of stamping dies:

a. Blanking die: A die that separates materials along closed or open contours. Such as blanking die, punching die, cutting die, notch die, trimming die, cutting die, etc.

b. Bending mold: A mold that bends a sheet blank or other blanks along a straight line (bending line) to obtain a workpiece with a certain angle and shape.

c. Drawing die: It is a mold for making the sheet blank into an open hollow part, or further changing the shape and size of the hollow part.

d. Forming mold: It is a mold that directly copies the rough or semi-finished workpiece according to the shape of the convex and concave molds in the figure, and the material itself only produces local plastic deformation. Such as bulging die, shrinking die, expanding die, undulating forming die, flanging die, shaping die, etc.
